Technology has entered an era of unpredictability, hasn't it?

Every year, we see new and emerging technologies come seemingly from out of nowhere to dominate a few news cycles.

This year, it was artificial intelligence.

Next year, what will it be?

We have some suggestions on what industries to keep an eye on in 2024.

Generative AI takes center stage: Artificial intelligence seemingly had its year in 2023 but it's primed to establish itself even more next year. Imagine an AI that can not only analyze data but also create unique content like text, code, images, and, well, perhaps even music. This year, we saw these tools emerge. Next year, we'll see widespread adoption across industries. Personalized marketing campaigns and engaging entertainment experiences will be just the beginning. As with most technologies, the applications have not even begun to make their way into the public sphere. Smarter people than me will create the next generation of applications and uses for technology.

Spatial computing redefines our interactions: Yet another "emerging technology" that has taken several years to grow and develop but has the potential to make a bigger mark in 2024. This new era of a blend between the physical and digital worlds made huge leaps in 2023 with the continued development of virtual reality and augmented reality. These technologies will move beyond gaming and entertainment in 2024, continuing to transform workplaces, education, and countless other spaces. Expect advancements in wearable devices and intuitive gesture controls that further blur the lines.

Sustainable tech goes mainstream: Environmental concerns continue to mount in some circles. As such, sustainable tech should see a huge leap in 2024 as environmentally conscious businesses continue their research and deployment of technologies. Eco-friendly solutions will continue to gain momentum in 2024. In addition, there will be innovations in green energy production, carbon capture technologies, and smart grids that optimize energy consumption. Sustainable materials and energy-efficient devices will also become increasingly popular, driven by both environmental consciousness and consumer demand.

BioTech revolutionizes healthcare: Healthcare is one of the most personal sectors of technology with some of the more important innovations coming quickly now. From personalized medicine to gene editing, biotechnology holds immense potential to revolutionize healthcare. The year 2024 may bring breakthroughs in areas like precision medicine, where treatments are tailored to individual genetic profiles, and bioprinting, which could pave the way for organ regeneration. Everyone has heard the rumors of these technology advances but 2024 could see them reach the mainstream. Advances in brain-computer interfaces may also open doors for treating neurological disorders.
